When Would a Host Need to Extend a Guest’s Stay?
Guests may need to extend their stay for various reasons—flight delays, unexpected plans, or simply enjoying their trip longer than expected. Whatever the case, extending a stay is a straightforward process, but how you do it depends on where the booking was made.
Some platforms allow instant modifications, while others require manual updates. Below, we’ll walk you through the steps for Airbnb, VRBO, direct bookings, and Booking.com.
How to Extend a Stay Based on the Booking Channel
Airbnb Reservations
For Airbnb bookings, you can extend a stay in two ways:
✔️ Guest-Initiated Request: Ask the guest to send you an alteration request directly through Airbnb.
✔️ Host-Initiated Request: Send an alteration request from Jurny for the guest to approve. Once accepted, the reservation updates automatically. Click here to learn how to process an alteration request.
Note: Airbnb handles payments for hosts, so no manual charging is required.
VRBO & Direct Bookings
For VRBO and direct bookings, you’ll need to extend the stay by updating the reservation details in Jurny and manually charging the guest’s credit card for the additional nights. Alternatively, you can offer an upsell option to streamline the process. You can either send the guest an upsell manually or use NIA automations to trigger an upsell if the reservation meets certain conditions.

Booking.com & Other Channels
For Booking.com and other OTAs, you have two options for extending a reservation:
- You can contact the platform directly to request the extension, ensuring the changes reflect on the guest’s end.
- Alternatively, you can edit the reservation in Jurny, but keep in mind that while this will update availability and block the calendar on Booking.com, it won’t reflect the changes on the guest’s booking details.
Upsells are available across all booking platforms. Once a guest purchases an upsell:
✔️ The reservation is automatically updated in Jurny.
✔️ The booking channel is notified of the change.
Only, if applicable, refresh the smart lock access code to reflect the new dates.

Important Considerations: Smart Lock Access Codes
Refreshing Smart Locks After Extending a Stay

1. Open the guest’s reservation in Jurny.
2. Find the Access Code section below the reservation status.
3. Click Refresh – the system will instantly update the code with the new dates.
